Although it is a small town, Castagnole Monferrato retains several buildings of great value. Just outside the town, arriving from the south-west, one cannot fail to notice the remains of the ancient walls that once surrounded the shelter.

Of the ancient castle that once dominated the village, only part of the perimeter walls, a turret, a fragment of a rampart, some windows, and parts of exposed brick façades remain visible, but they give a good idea of the grandeur and magnificence of the entire building.
Thanks to an over-wall path, you can reach the centre of the village and the Parish Church of San Martino, built in the early 18th century in Baroque style on the remains of an earlier medieval complex. Inside, the church’s spaces are divided into three naves with several side chapels, housing precious paintings by the painter Guglielmo Caccia nicknamed “the Raphael of Monferrato” or “il Moncalvo” and valuable wooden statues depicting Santa Margherita and The Last Supper. On the opposite side of the square, behind the town hall, stands the Church of the Confraternity of the Annunziata, also in Baroque style and with a beautiful inlaid wooden portal.
Definitely worth a visit are the Sun Sundial dedicated to Ruché wine, considered the largest in the world, and the largest wine press in Europe, housed in the ‘La Mercantile’ palace, which belonged to the Counts Rogeri, one of the most important 18th-century families in Castagnole Monferrato and home to the ‘Ruché Festival’, the most important food and wine event in the Monferrato area. Every year during this festival the Ruché prize is awarded in memory of my father.
Lastly, you cannot leave Castagnole Monferrato without visiting at least one of the famous ‘crutin’, small cellars dug into the tuff, where Ruché wine is still aged and refined, thanks to the constant temperature and humidity levels, which make it possible to obtain a product of excellent quality.
Nature is the undisputed protagonist in Monferrato, forging wine-growing hills and offering unique experiences season after season. Various activities make it possible to live in contact with it: relaxing in dedicated areas, cycling and tasting local products.
If you want to spend a carefree weekend, you are in the right place. I offer customised packages that include not only accommodation, but also the opportunity to buy Ruché or other local wines from the best producers, Piedmontese Fassone beef and aged cheeses.
