Famous for its hilly landscapes, vineyards and medieval castles

Castagnole Monferrato is a charming village near Asti, Piemonte, Italy.
Famous for its hilly landscapes covered with vineyards, it is famous for its production of fine wines.
Castagnole Monferrato is where a very special wine called Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG was born.
Here, we say that ‘if someone offers you a glass of Ruché, it is because they like you‘. It’s true! That is why I am happy to host you in these typical farmhouses, built by my ancestors in the early 1800s, and to help you find the best producers of Ruché and other food and wine products in this area.
You may have wondered why it is called ‘Bricco delle Belle Donne’! which means “hill of beautiful women”.
It is a fascinating story that dates back to the mid-1800s.
A very large family of 14 brothers and sisters lived in this slightly uphill street, called ‘bricco’ in Piedmontese dialect. At the time, large families were common, but one with 14 children was extraordinary.
About half of these children were women, so the street was called the street of beautiful women, or the Bricco delle Belle Donne. It was in this house that my Grand-grandfather , my grandfather, my father and finally me were born.

Ruché is a very special wine, its cultivation began in Castagnole Monferrato several generations ago.
My family was a family of small wine producers and they started producing it over the past centuries. The earliest versions of Ruché were very different from those ofthe versions we drink today; I remember, for example, that as a child there were those who vinified it as a sweet wine, as if it were Mmoscato! Over the years, winemaking techniques have been refined, the producers have increased their experience and today it is an excellent wine even if it is still little known.
I like to remember with this label the work of my father who was one of the first modern Ruché producers.

The Bricco delle Belle Donne Estate offers three accommodation options

Arbe
This entire house can accommodate up to six people and has two bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, a living room, a terrace and a yoga room.
The term ‘arbe‘ in ‘Piemontese‘ dialect indicates the ‘bigoncia‘, a large container used during the grape harvest to transport grapes from the vineyard to the cellar.
Buta
This flat can accommodate up to three people and consists of a bedroom, a bathroom and a large living room with kitchen.
The name ‘buta‘ in ‘Piemontese‘ dialect means ‘bottle‘, and this room was formerly used to store bottles. Located on the ground floor, it is particularly convenient for those who prefer to avoid stairs.
Brenta
Located on the first floor, this flat can accommodate up to three people and consists of a bedroom, a bathroom and a spacious kitchen with two large windows.
The name ‘brenta‘ in ‘Piedmontese‘ dialect refers to a 50-litre container that was carried on the shoulder and used to carry grapes during the grape harvest or to carry wine from one barrel to another during racking operations.

What to do in the Monferrato area
Although it is a small town, Castagnole Monferrato preserves some buildings of great value. Just outside the town, arriving from the south-west, you cannot fail to notice the remains of the ancient walls that once surrounded the Ricetto.
Nature is the undisputed protagonist in Monferrato, forging wine-growing hills and offering unique experiences season after season. Various activities make it possible to live in contact with it: relaxation in dedicated areas, cycling excursions and tastings of local products.
Castagnole Monferrato offers a unique balance of rural tranquillity, modern connectivity and social opportunities, making it an ideal place for digital nomads seeking inspiration, community and a remote working environment.
